Nestlé Life Cycle Assessment Expert joins AgriFoodLCA

Nestlé, the world’s leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company, will join AgriFoodLCA, the 1st Life Cycle Assessment Conference for Agriculture and Food, in Melbourne on 23rd and 24th of November.

Hosted by the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS), the conference will feature Dr Urs Schenker, Nestlé Research Center’s Life Cycle Assessment Expert for the world leading company.

“To improve the environmental performance of our products, we have rolled-out a systematic ecodesign process throughout the Nestlé R&D organization” explains Urs. “This allows us to get a clear understanding of the environmental life-cycle impacts of our products – from agricultural production and the sourcing of ingredients through to what happens at the end of a product’s life – across the value chain.”

Life cycle assessment (LCA) measures environmental performance based on five key indicators – climate change, water footprint, biodiversity, energy and land use.

“Focusing on preserving water, using natural resources efficiently, conserving biodiversity, reducing air emissions, adapting to climate change and preserving valuable land, we use LCA to help us understand the performance of our products along their value chain. This informs our decision making; helps us take actions to continuously improve our environmental performance; enables us to respond to stakeholders’ growing interest in the environmental performance of food and beverage products; and provides credible evidence to support specific environmental communications and claims.”

Book your tickets to AgriFoodLCA to hear more from Urs.

The ALCAS 2015 Conference Series will also feature LCM Australia 2015, The 9th Australian Conference on Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Management, and AusBuildLCA, the 1st Life Cycle Assessment Conference for Building and Construction.
